In this article, you will learn how to remove the background from product images. There are two ways to do this, but each method is used for specific scenarios.

The Automatic Remove Background option allows you to automatically remove the background using the product image’s color contrast. The Manual Remove Background option, on the other hand, lets you specifically set the product’s cut-out points to select only the product image.

Automatic Remove Background

1. Go to a project and open the Design Editor.

2. Ensure that the product is already in the Canvas and selected.

3. In the Editing Toolbar, find and click the Remove Background icon.

4. By default, the Auto-Remove Background tab is active when accessing the Remove Background window. If the Auto-Remove Background tab is not selected, click the tab to open.

5. In the Auto-Remove Background tab, find the Color range option and move the Toggle all the way to the left to remove the background or to the right to add.

6. Click Save to update the product image.

Manually Remove Background

1. Go to a project and open the Design Editor.

2. Ensure that the product is already in the Canvas and selected.

3. In the Editing Toolbar, find and click the Remove Background icon.

4. By default, the Auto-Remove Background tab is active when accessing the Remove Background window. Click the Manually Remove Background tab to open.

5. Point your cursor on the item that you want to cut-out and click it to create a Starting Point.

  • Note: you can use the Zoom in/Zoom out options to make it easier for you to plot the points like what we did in this example.

6. Continue plotting the cut-out points on the product’s edges until you reach the Starting Point again.

7. After you completed selecting the points, the area outside the selection will be grayed out. When this happens, you can adjust the plotted points to clean out the edges and ensure that the background images are removed.

8. If the selected product image is good to go, click Save to save the updated product image.

9. Ensure that you also click the Save button located at the Design Board Actions Menu to apply the changes to the design board.
